Supporting Malaysia’s Energy Transition

The National Energy Transition Facility (NETF), established under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) by the Ministry of Economy, serves to enable catalytic blended finance, ensuring a flow of financial resources towards energy transition projects that are marginally bankable or yield sub-market returns.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the National Energy Transition Facility (NETF)?

The National Energy Transition Facility (NETF) is a financing initiative under Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). It’s designed to help businesses and project developers access funding for impactful projects that support sustainability, renewable energy, and carbon reduction.

How can NETF support my project?

NETF helps you secure the capital needed to move your energy transition project forward. Its goal is to fund initiatives aligned with Malaysia’s sustainability priorities while encouraging private sector participation through a blended financing approach.

What types of projects are eligible?

NETF supports a wide range of energy transition projects, including:

  • Energy efficiency upgrades
  • Solar, wind, hydro, and other renewable energy projects
  • Hydrogen production and use
  • Bioenergy initiatives
  • Green mobility and electrification
  • Carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS)

Does NETF offer grants or financing?

NETF primarily offers financing support, not grants. It provides catalytic capital to help businesses secure additional funding from private investors, banks or other sources by improving project bankability.

Can NETF work with other financial institutions?

Yes. NETF is designed to complement other sources of financing. It encourages collaboration with financial institutions to unlock a larger pool of capital and scale up funding for energy transition projects in Malaysia.
