BPMB brightens up Deepavali Celebration with Residents of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna Malaysia in Melaka

Melaka, 5 November 2024 – Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (Bank Pembangunan) brought the festive spirit of Deepavali to life by sharing joy with 33 young male residents of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Bhagawan Sri Ramakrishna Malaysia in Melaka today.

The celebration, underlining Bank Pembangunan’s commitment to social impact, saw the Bank extending its contribution of RM20,000 to support the operations of the charity home.

The day began with a heartwarming series of performances by the residents, followed by a Deepavali-themed feast prepared for everyone at the home.

During her address, Sainursalwa Sani, BPMB’s Chief Human Resource Officer, said, “We believe in the power of sharing, especially during festive occasions. We are proud to contribute RM20,000 to support this charity home and hope this small gesture makes a meaningful difference in their lives. Celebrating together creates stronger bonds within the community. It also allows us to extend meaningful support in various ways.

“Balancing social impact and economic growth is at the heart of our bank’s mission and in our purpose of delivering impact capital for national development,” she added.

Dr Balamurali Govindasamy, the charity home’s President, expressed his gratitude: “Every resident deserves to experience the joy of Deepavali, and we are truly grateful for today’s event. We hope that corporate organisations like BPMB will continue bringing smiles to those less fortunate, while fostering a sense of community and compassion.”

The event, involving the charity home residents and staff, was also attended by BPMB’s Board of Directors, Senior Leadership Team, and staff.

BPMB has embarked on various CSR activities, including creating awareness on sustainability among schoolchildren and providing free meals to the homeless or urban poor via a soup kitchen programme. With a strong focus on four (4) key pillars – Community Development, Financial Literacy, Environment, and Women Empowerment – BPMB’s CSR encompasses various initiatives aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Today’s Deepavali event is one of a series of festive celebrations the Bank has organised throughout the year. BPMB will conclude its activities for 2024 with a pre- Christmas celebration and begin 2025 with a Chinese New Year celebration at a selected charity home in the Klang Valley.
